Complete the Dream
Campaign
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, in San Ysidro, California, was founded in
1933 under the administration of the Sisters Servants of the Blessed
Sacrament. The school started with seven students and four religious
sisters. In 1943, the school was renamed San Ysidro Academy and presided
over by the Benedictine Sisters. The school was then expanded and offices
were added. In 1966 the Benedictine Sisters left San Ysidro and the Sisters
Servants of the Blessed Sacrament returned, giving back to school its
original name, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School.
An
assembly hall was added in 1979, and in the early 1990’s plans were
initiated to replace the original classrooms. In 1992 the Diocese of San
Diego approved blueprints for a more modernized and safer school building.
Construction began in March 1993 and Phase I of the new building was
completed in September 1994.
In response to parent demands and the opportunity to continue reinforcing
enrollment, the school is currently leasing two portable classrooms for our
Kinder Readiness Program and Learning Center to enhance reading and writing
skills.
Last year we initiated a “Complete the Dream” Campaign to complete Phase II
of the new building. Phase II consists of replacing the older building that
currently serves Kindergarten and First Grade with the addition of a new
building with four new classrooms. These classrooms would provide new,
safer, modern classrooms, incorporating an all new, state-of-the-art,
Computer and Media Center, as well as an all new Fine Arts Department.
It is only through the generosity of our friends, parents, and alumni that
we can Complete the Dream. We hope that you will help Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel School’s dream become reality.
